Product Care Guide

Is there anything quite like sipping your morning tea or coffee from one of our handmade mugs whilst the world wakes up around you?

Great care is taken to ensure our ceramics are functional and durable. They are designed to be loved, used and held. We want you to be able to enjoy our products for years to come. To ensure your pieces remain in their best condition, please take note of our care and use recommendations.

All of our functional products are food, drink, microwave and dishwasher safe.

All our handmade stoneware pieces are made using 100% lead free, food safe glaze and materials.

Food and Drink

We recommend letting boiling water settle (stop rolling/bubbling) before pouring into a ceramic item. If item is cold to touch, we suggest pre-heating it with warm/hot tap water.

Highly textured or carved surfaces are only suitable for dry foods such as fruit, crisps or bread rolls. Liquids and hot foods should only be placed in wares with smooth and shiny glazed surfaces.

Washing and Cleaning

Before first use, ceramics should be washed in soapy water.

Products should be rinsed straight after use to prevent staining from food over time.

Although products are dishwasher safe repeated and/or regular dishwasher cycles may cause discolouration of products over time. If you choose to wash it by hand, please use a soft scrub brush/sponge and dish soap, and avoid metal and/or abrasive sponges.

Oven and Microwave Use

Our products are safe to use in the oven and microwave.

When used in the oven they must be heated gradually and we would advise against using them at high temperatures for extended periods of time. Avoid placing pottery over an open flame or directly over a heating element.

Ceramics should never be microwaved when empty, only use when at least half full and should not be used when heating foods for long periods.

Use in Freezers

Our ceramics are safe to be used in a freezer for storing food, but should be at room temperature (or cooler) before being placed in a freezer.

If used in a freezer, ceramic pieces should be warmed to room temperature gradually.

All pottery items can crack if exposed to sudden changes in temperature

Storage and Handling

Care should be taken when storing, stacking and handling your ceramics to avoid scratching, chipping and breakages.

Ageing of Products

Like all things in the world, pieces will age gradually with use. How they age will reflect how well they have been used and cared for.

Acidic liquids are harshest on glazes and strong coloured liquids may stain certain surfaces.

Glazes also may have hairline crackling running throughout as part of the texture. Sometimes this crackle texture is plainly visible and sometimes it isn’t. As it ages with repeated use and washing, the crackling will become more visible and deepen in tone. You can slow this process down by washing immediately after use.

Ceramics will grow with you and begin to tell their own stories.

Broken Pieces

If your pieces become chipped, cracked or damaged, then it is time they retire from functional use.
